The year of 2011

Pope Benedict XVI
gave an audience to the catechists and mission families assembled in Paul VI Hall, saying that “The Lord Confirms the Neocatechumenal Way” and that "The Catechetical Directory" has been given ecclesiastical approval. The Holy Father also gave mission crosses to the families and presbyters selected to go to new missions around different parts of the world this year. The Pope’s address.

"Relationship between Theology and Christian Initiation."
Fr Juan Peñafiel, from Barcelona, Spain, Professor in Fundamental theology came to give the summer course to the seminarians of both Sydney and Perth Seminaries. The course was a synthesis of “Systematic Theology and faith formation through the catechumenate”. This took place in Croydon (Melbourne) where we were welcomed and given hospitality by the parishioners of Sacred Heart Parish.

Beginning of the Year Convivenze
was held in Sydney for the seminarians, presbyters, catechists and responsibles of communities in order to prepare for the evangelisation for the coming year.

Dean’s Award at Notre Dame University, Fremantle
The Dean’s Award is given to the most outstanding students in their particular fields. This is the first award given to a Theology student and it went to one of our seminarians David Ramirez. The Awards were given on the 24th February 2011 by the Dean of Philosophy and Theology, Dr. Matthew Ogilvie.

Three of our seminarians ordained to the Diaconate for Perth Archdiocese
Marcelo Parra Gonzalez, Antonio Scala and Wilson Donizetti Martins Junior were ordained deacons by Archbishop Hickey in St Mary’s Cathedral, Perth in a very joyful and moving celebration. They have been assigned to work in particular parishes in the Archdiocese in preparation for the Presbyterate within the next twelve months.
